Health & Safety Policy (Website Summary)

London Paint Works Ltd (trading as London Machine Works) is committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, contractors, visitors, and anyone who may be affected by our activities. We take all reasonably practicable steps to prevent injury, ill health, and damage arising from our operations.

Our commitment

We will:

  • Identify hazards, assess risks, and put effective controls in place.
  • Promote a positive safety culture where everyone takes responsibility for working safely.
  • Provide suitable information, instruction, training, and supervision.
  • Maintain safe workplaces, tools, equipment and systems of work.
  • Investigate incidents and learn from them to prevent recurrence.
  • Continually improve our health and safety performance.

Legal compliance

We aim to meet or exceed applicable UK health and safety legislation and guidance, including (where relevant):
Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, PUWER, COSHH, and CDM 2015.

Who this policy applies to

This policy applies to all London Machine Works workplaces, sites and activities, and to all employees and contractors working under our control.

Responsibilities

  • Managing Director: Overall responsibility for health & safety leadership, resourcing, and ensuring effective arrangements are in place.
  • Managers/Supervisors: Implement safe systems of work, carry out risk assessments, provide supervision, and ensure competence.
  • Employees & Contractors: Take reasonable care, follow instructions, use PPE as required, and report hazards and near-misses.

How we manage risk

We use a structured approach to risk management, including:

  • Risk assessments and, where required, RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements).
  • Pre-task checks and toolbox talks for higher-risk activities.
  • Permit-to-work controls where appropriate (e.g., hot works, electrical isolation).
  • Planned maintenance and inspection of equipment and lifting accessories.

Incident reporting

All accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions must be reported promptly so we can investigate root causes and implement corrective actions. Where applicable, we comply with RIDDOR reporting requirements.

Emergency arrangements

We maintain appropriate emergency procedures (e.g., fire, first aid, spills, evacuation), ensure suitable first aid provision, and carry out periodic drills and reviews.

Review and continual improvement

We monitor performance through inspections, audits, incident review and corrective actions, and we review this policy annually or when significant changes occur.
